Xiaomi has released an update to its Security app that introduces automatic car crash detection and emergency SOS features to its smartphones. This functionality, already available in devices from other brands for some time, is designed to enhance user safety and potentially save lives in critical situations.
The updated app, version 10.9.6-250710.0.1, uses real-time data from the smartphone’s accelerometer, analyzed by AI algorithms, to detect possible car accidents. When a crash is suspected, the system activates a 20-second countdown, during which the phone emits loud audio signals and strong vibrations to draw attention and allow users a chance to cancel the alert if needed.
If the alert is not dismissed within the countdown period, the smartphone will automatically contact pre-set emergency numbers. Along with the call, it also sends a text message containing the user’s real-time location, enabling quicker response by emergency services.
To access the new feature, users must update the Security app by navigating to Settings > App Updates on their Xiaomi device and installing the latest version.
This move positions Xiaomi among manufacturers leveraging smartphone sensors and AI to improve personal safety, particularly in situations where the user might be incapacitated or unable to call for help. The system is particularly useful in regions where emergency response time is critical and compliance with traditional safety alerts, like manual calls or messages, may be delayed.
In summary, Xiaomi’s new feature combines crash detection with automatic emergency communication, providing a valuable tool for improving user safety during road accidents.
